Energy conservation is or should be a concern for everyone, for a multitude of reasons. We spend a lot of money on energy, whether it’s gasoline, electricity, natural gas, batteries, firewood, etc. All of these forms of energy cost money. Conserving energy, or simply using less, is an economic benefit.
Other reasons relate to our stewardship of energy resources. All energy processes, including extraction, purification, and transportation, not only carry a financial cost, but often result in environmental degradation. Energy consumption/combustion is the main human contribution of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Finally, conserving energy collectively as a country helps reduce our energy dependence on foreign countries.
