What can I plant on my septic field?

Turfgrasses and native grasses are good options for planting over septic fields. You may also consider non-woody perennial plants. Trees and shrubs should not be planted on the septic field and should be placed far enough from the septic field so that expanding roots will not interrupt the field.

Trees that will be small at maturity should be placed at least 25 feet from the septic field, while trees that will mature to be very large should be planted at least 50 feet from the septic field.
